7th & 8th FEBRUARY 2025
Tairua, Coromandel
CHARITY FISHING COMPETITION 2025
Entries Open Soon
We’re thrilled to announce that the Cocksy Classic is back for 2025 thanks to the amazing support from Dayle ITM!
The Fishing Comp
For those of you that are new to this event, we can assure you this isn’t your normal fishing comp. The day involves humorous fishing antics and sideways rules.
Protests are not only welcome, but they are also encouraged and bribery of the judges is welcome.
The Species
Species for the comp are Snapper, Kahawai, Kingi and Crayfish, with mystery species revealed at the safety briefing on the Friday night. Some of the judging will be by mystery length and some by mystery weight and others completely random! Participants can fish from land or sea by either hook or spearfishing. No long lines, nets or cray pots permitted.
The Champion
With an event like this, awards couldn’t possibly follow the norm! Participants should prepare themselves for fun and bring their sense of humour. There is no “one” individual winner – like a good rugby match it comes down to a “team effort”. In the spirit of the yellow jersey concept, it will be a team that is awarded the highly coveted “Golden Fleece”.
The Prizes
Although prizes are part of this event, they should not be the reason you attend. We take no shame in making it loud and clear that participation in this event is NOT about “what’s in it for you”, it’s about what we can raise for the kids. That said, the competition is generously supported by many wonderful sponsors who donate amazing prizes, raffles, and auction items.

The Kiwi Kids Charity brings hope, help, and happiness to Kiwi Kids, helping those unique needs that often aren’t eligible for funding or support through other organisations.

OUR SPONSOR
We cannot express enough how grateful we are to have snagged an incredible sponsor in Dayle ITM. They go above and beyond to support our charity fishing competition, bringing their A-Game year after year and also help keep the legendary Golden Fleece rivalry alive and kicking!
A massive thank you to Blair and the team for your unwavering support because without you, our fishing comp just wouldn't be reel-y fun!
